HINDUS AGAINST HINDUTVA

Posted on 30th December, 2022

In India, it is observed that politically projected Hindutva is often opposed by the Hindus themselves. Factually speaking, Hinduism is not an organized, institutionalized religion per se. There are innumerable diversities, heterogeneities and pluralities under the umbrella designation of “Hindu”. If anyone tries to define Hinduism as a caste-based religion, that will be a great mistake since Vaisnavas and Buddhists (Buddha is projected as one of the ten avataras of Lord Vishnu) do not subscribe the caste hierarchy.

Moreover, the recent trend of converting persons with other religious affiliation to Hindus is questionable enough as one cannot ascribe caste identity to the converted one within the liminal ritual of religious conversion, which is frequently being described as “ghar wapsi” (return to the home).

In this short article, we are trying to show some instances of Hindu martyrs, who fought against politically projected, militant Hindutvavadins as indoctrinated by the Sangh Parivar.

Thus, defferance between Hindu and the politically constructed ideal of militant Hindutva differs and defers simultaneously at the moment of establishing the Akhand, Irrendentist Hindu Bharat Rashtra. In fact, the Hindutvavadins’ ideology is nothing more than a mirror-image of some other dominant organized religions such as Christianity and Islam.

We think that these Hindutvavadins led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (henceforth BJP) are masking or concealing the forces of market fundamentalism, the phenomenon of free flow of private capital and the corporate sponsored minimal state by foregrounding religious fundamentalism every now and then⤡. They are following the colonial legacy of divide and rule policy of the British raj. It is not surprising, honestly speaking, since some of the chief propagators of Hindutva, viz., “Veer” Savarkar was a lackey or bootlicker of the British colonial “masters”; M. S. Golwalkar was thoroughly against the anti-imperialist movement as he thought that the real enemies were Muslims, Communists and Christians, and not the Britishers.

All the above instances show that the developmental planning of politically motivated Hindutvavadins is being resisted by the Hindu monks. Actually, no political party in India is concerned about the climate crisis, not only the BJP.

This intra-group resistance shows that all the Hindu monks are eco-martyrs. On the other hand, the so-called Hindu government does not pay any heed to their causes (e.g., Save the River Ganga).

They do not bother about the sacred death of Hindu eco-martyrs. Cruelty, thy name is Bharatiya Janata Party!
