Babri Masjid to Ram Mandir: Modi as PM vs Modi as citizen (?)- An RTI to the PMO, India

Posted on 15/03/2024 (GMT 19:15 hrs)

On 22nd January, 2024, a sitting Prime Minister of the so-called “Largest Secular Democracy” of the world performed the ritual for animating the inanimate idol of an infantile Lord Rama, a deity who is a jural person!

In connection to the above event, we filed an RTI on 28.01.2024 to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of India, having the following text:

This is to kindly ask you for giving me information on the following questions:

Did our Honourable Prime Minister perform the Bhumi Pujan of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 05. 08. 2020, and act as the yajmana for the final inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 22.01.2024 in his personal capacity or as the incumbent office-holder of the Constitutional Chair of the Prime Minister of India? In other words, did our Honourable Prime Minister visit numerous temples in various states of India during his presently-held office on governmental/public expenditure or personal/crowd funding? I utterly need either YES or NO answer as a common Indian citizen.

CORRECTION: As per the latest news, Mr. Modi the PM did not perform as a yajmana, but seemingly as an individual guest invited by the Ram Mandir trust. Further elaboration on this shall be dependent on the replies to be received on this RTI. The pradhan yajman was in fact RSS leader Anil Mishra and his wife, who were not visible during the entire spectacle of the inauguration. Mr. Modi had committed a deviation from the “scriptural norms” by apparently becoming a yajmana without a wife, just like Sri Rama, who, during the asvamedha yajna, was compelled to install the idol of golden Sita as a supplement. Thus, it may be concluded that the de facto yajmana, Mr. Narendra Modi, seems to be equal to the strategy taken by the misogynist Sri Rama.

To the above application, an “interim” (in process) reply by snail mail/speed post was received by the appellant on 27.02.2024, which is given as follows:

Further updates shall be given accordingly as per the status of the RTI application.

In this episode of Central Hall, Kapil Sibal and Shashi Tharoor have a freewheeling conversation on the place of religion in Indian politics – how it is being used to push a polarising, identity politics – and also the challenges facing the INDIA alliance as we come up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

We filed an RTI on the questions addressed by Mr. Tharoor and Mr. Sibal much before. The above interview was transmitted on 14th March, 2024. Our RTI raised the self-same questions on 28th January, 2024!
